Our podiatrists spend an average of 10 years in education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the next four years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to conventional medical school and actually quite a number podiatry programs lie inside these academic institutions. Upon securing a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute carry out a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for yet another 1 - 3 years.
At the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatric doctors have gained significant health care training with an importance on problems regarding the ankles and feet. They are trained to address problems varying from commonplace afflictions for instance, fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are far more sophisticated for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have significant surgical instruction which give them the experience needed to perform surgery on those issues that are best treated through surgical treatment.
Our Doctors additionally have a comprehensive expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet experience as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Comprehending biomechanics and gait problems allows a Podiatric doctor to design shoes and orthotics that can offer pain relief and defend against many troubles which the feet generally experience.
