Edmonton Podiatrist & Foot Clinic

Dr.’s here at The Foot Institute – Edmonton concentrate on the medical and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. Foot Institute Doctors put in about ten years in education, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the next four years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to usual medical school and in fact numerous podiatry training programs are contained inside these schools. Upon achieving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 to 3 years.

At the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Doctors have acquired significant medical training with a focus on complications concerning the ankles and feet. They are trained to treat problems ranging from simple conditions like fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are far more puzzling such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have substantial surgical training which provide them the practical experience necessary to conduct surgical treatment on those problems that are best treated through surgical intervention.

Foot Institute Doctors additionally have a comprehensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet experience as we walk, run or perform other activities. Comprehending biomechanics and gait deviations permits a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics which can offer pain relief and avoid many troubles which the feet generally encounter.
