Medical doctors here at The Foot Institute – Calgary Sunpark provide services for the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. They spend around 10 years in education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the next four years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles conventional medical school and actually numerous podiatry training programs lie within these academic institutions. Upon getting a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or residency for yet another 1 to 3 years.
At the fulfillment of the internship or residency, our Podiatric physicians have received thorough healthcare instruction with a main focus on problems pertaining to the feet and ankles. They are instructed to manage issues ranging from normal conditions for instance ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are much more intricate like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have considerable surgical instruction which provide them the skill necessary to carry out surgery on those problems that are best handled through surgical intervention.
Doctors at the Foot Institute likewise have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs experience as we walk, run or carry out other tasks. Understanding biomechanics and gait abnormalities allows a Podiatric physician to design shoes and orthotics which can provide pain relief and avoid many issues which the feet usually encounter.
