Physicians at The Foot Institute – Calgary Signal Hill focus on the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our doctors devote around 10 years in education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to acquire a Bachelors Degree, and the following 4 years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to general medical school and in fact a number of podiatry programs are located within these institutions. After achieving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or residency for yet another 1 to 3 years.

Upon the fulfillment of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatric physicians have gained extensive health care instruction with an emphasis on complications regarding the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are trained to manage problems stretching from basic ailments for instance, ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are even more obscure like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have comprehensive surgical instruction which supply them the experience required to execute surgical treatment on those troubles that are best treated through surgical treatment.

Doctors at the Foot Institute also have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs experience as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Knowing biomechanics and gait deviations enables a Foot doctor to develop footwear and orthotics that can provide pain relief and protect against a large number of issues which the feet frequently experience.
