Specialists here at The Foot Institute – Calgary Beddington provide services for the surgical and medical treatment of the ankle and foot. They invest about 10 years in learning, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to get a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles traditional medical school and actually several podiatry training programs are contained inside these academic institutions. After attaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute carry out a hospital "internship" or residency for yet another one to three years.
Upon the conclusion of the internship or residency, our Foot doctors have acquired extensive healthcare training with a concentration on complications involving the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are trained to deal with concerns ranging from normal afflictions like fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are more sophisticated such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have substantial surgical education which supply them the expertise necessary to perform surgical treatment on those complications that are best handled through surgical intervention.
Doctors at the Foot Institute also have a thorough practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet go through as we walk, run or perform other activities. Recognizing biomechanics and gait problems empowers a Podiatric doctor to develop shoes and orthotics that can offer pain relief and prevent a large number of issues which the feet routinely encounter.
