Calgary Downtown Podiatrist & Foot Clinic

Dr.’s at The Foot Institute – Calgary Downtown focus on the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our podiatrists invest about a decade in learning, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to get a Bachelors Degree, and the following 4 years in Medical School to secure a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to standard medical school and in reality a number of podiatry programs are located within these schools. After attaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for an additional one to three years.

At the finalization of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatrists have acquired extensive healthcare training with a focus on issues involving the ankles and feet. They are trained to deal with problems extending from basic ailments for instance fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are more puzzling including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have comprehensive surgical education which give them the experience needed to carry out surgery on those concerns that are best remedied through surgical intervention.

Doctors at the Foot Institute furthermore have an extensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs endure as we walk, run or perform other activities. Learning about biomechanics and gait abnormalities allows a Podiatric doctor to design shoes and orthotics that can offer pain relief and avoid many complications which the feet routinely experience.
