Specialists at The Foot Institute – Fort McMurray - Thickwood Heights concentrate on the surgical and medical treatment of the ankle and foot. Our podiatrists put in an average of ten years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd 4 years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to general medical school and in reality various podiatry training programs are located within these institutions. After receiving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for yet another one to three years.
Upon the finalization of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have acquired extensive medical instruction with an attention to on problems regarding the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are instructed to handle problems ranging from usual problems for instance, fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are a lot more perplexing including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have extensive surgical training which give them the skill necessary to conduct surgical treatment on those problems that are ideally remedied through surgical intervention.
Foot Institute Doctors also have an extensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or perform other activities. Knowing biomechanics and gait irregularities makes it possible for a Podiatric physician to develop shoes and orthotics that can give pain relief and avoid many troubles which the feet generally experience.
