Doctors at The Foot Institute – Red Deer provide services for the medical and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our doctors invest about 10 years in higher education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to receive a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to receive a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles regular medical school and actually several podiatry programs are contained inside these schools. Upon obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another one to three years.
Upon the fulfillment of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have received comprehensive health care instruction with a main focus on complications involving the ankles and feet. They are studied to treat problems ranging from commonplace problems for instance fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are much more puzzling including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have extensive surgical education which provide them the skill vital to perform surgery on those conditions that are best handled through surgical treatment.
Our Doctors also have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs submit to as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Learning about biomechanics and gait deviations makes it easy for a Foot doctor to design shoes and orthotics which can deliver pain relief and help prevent many troubles which the feet generally encounter.
