Dr.’s at The Foot Institute – Calgary Sunpark concentrate on the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. They invest an average of ten years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to attain a Bachelors Degree, and the next 4 years in Medical School to secure a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to typical medical school and as a matter of fact many podiatry training programs are contained inside these academic institutions. After getting a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.
At the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatric physicians have acquired substantial medical education with an emphasis on concerns concerning the ankles and feet. They are studied to address concerns ranging from basic conditions for instance, ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are far more perplexing like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have thorough surgical education which supply them the practical experience crucial to perform surgical treatment on those problems that are best handled through surgical intervention.
Foot Institute Doctors furthermore have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet undergo as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Recognizing biomechanics and gait deviations enables a Podiatric doctor to design shoes and orthotics that can provide pain relief and reduce the chances of many conditions which the feet routinely experience.
