Specialists here at The Foot Institute – Calgary Sunpark specialize in the surgical and medical therapy of the ankle and foot. Our podiatrists spend about ten years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the following four years in Medical School to secure a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to regular medical school and in fact numerous podiatry programmes lie within these schools. Upon procuring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or residency for yet another 1 - 3 years.
At the conclusion of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatric physicians have gained significant medical education with a main focus on conditions regarding the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are trained to treat problems varying from commonplace disorders for instance fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are far more obscure for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have substantial surgical instruction which give them the skill essential to perform surgery on those troubles that are ideally remedied through surgical intervention.
Doctors at the Foot Institute likewise have a comprehensive expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet experience as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Realizing biomechanics and gait irregularities enables a Foot doctor to develop footwear and orthotics which can give pain relief and help prevent countless troubles which the feet normally encounter.
