Physicians here at The Foot Institute – Calgary Sunpark specialize in the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. Our doctors devote about 10 years in education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles conventional medical school and as a matter of fact a number of podiatry programmes lie within these academic institutions. After securing a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for yet another one to three years.

Upon the fulfillment of the internship or post degree residency, our Foot doctors have received substantial medical training with a focus on issues concerning the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are educated to handle issues varying from normal disorders for example, fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are much more complicated including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have extensive surgical training which give them the experience vital to perform surgical treatment on those complications that are best managed through surgical intervention.

Doctors at the Foot Institute additionally have a comprehensive expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet experience as we walk, run or carry out other tasks. Learning about biomechanics and gait peculiarities allows a Podiatric doctor to design shoes and orthotics which can provide pain relief and prevent countless problems which the feet regularly encounter.
