Podiatrists at The Foot Institute – Calgary Sunpark specialize in the medical and surgical therapy of the foot and ankle. They spend about 10 years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to acquire a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to get a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to usual medical school and actually numerous podiatry programs are contained inside these institutions. After receiving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute carry out a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional 1 - 3 years.
Upon the finalization of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatrists have received thorough healthcare training with a focus on difficulties regarding the feet and ankles. Foot Institute Doctors are instructed to treat problems ranging from commonplace disorders for instance ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are even more puzzling for instance, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have comprehensive surgical instruction which supply them the experience required to execute surgery on those concerns that are best managed through surgical intervention.
Doctors at the Foot Institute also have an extensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet endure as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Realizing biomechanics and gait deviations facilitates a Podiatric doctor to develop shoes and orthotics which can give pain relief and minimize the risk of numerous problems which the feet typically encounter.
