Podiatrists at The Foot Institute – Calgary Downtown concentrate on the medical and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our podiatrists spend approximately 10 years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to get a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to get a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles typical medical school and in fact several podiatry programmes are contained within these schools. After attaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for an additional one to three years.

At the conclusion of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have received comprehensive healthcare training with an emphasis on difficulties regarding the feet and ankles. They are studied to address difficulties ranging from general afflictions for instance ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are a lot more complicated including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have significant surgical instruction which provide them the skill necessary to execute surgery on those problems that are best remedied through surgical intervention.

Our Doctors also have an extensive expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs receive as we walk, run or perform other activities. Recognizing biomechanics and gait peculiarities permits a Foot doctor to create footwear and orthotics that can provide pain relief and defend against numerous issues which the feet typically encounter.
