Podiatrists at The Foot Institute – Drayton Valley focus on the surgical and medical treatment of the ankle and foot. Foot Institute Doctors devote an average of ten years in learning, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to secure a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and in fact various podiatry training programs are located inside these schools. After securing a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute carry out a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.
At the finalization of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatrists have obtained extensive health care education with a stress on problems concerning the feet and ankles. Foot Institute Doctors are studied to treat difficulties ranging from regular problems such as ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are more complicated for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have thorough surgical instruction which provide them the skill essential to execute surgical treatment on those complications that are best treated through surgical treatment.
Doctors at the Foot Institute also have an extensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs submit to as we walk, run or perform other activities. Recognizing biomechanics and gait peculiarities allows a Podiatric doctor to create shoes and orthotics which can offer pain relief and reduce the chances of a large number of complications which the feet regularly encounter.
