Specialists here at The Foot Institute – Calgary Downtown focus on the surgical and medical therapy of the foot and ankle. Our doctors put in about ten years in higher education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to acquire a Bachelors Degree, and the following four years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles standard medical school and actually several podiatry programs are located within these institutions. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.

At the finalization of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have received significant medical training with a stress on difficulties pertaining to the ankles and feet. They are instructed to treat concerns ranging from general afflictions such as fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are much more complicated including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have thorough surgical training which give them the experience essential to execute surgical treatment on those complications that are ideally managed through surgical treatment.

Doctors at the Foot Institute furthermore have a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet experience as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Recognizing biomechanics and gait deviations enables a Podiatric doctor to create shoes and orthotics which can provide pain relief and avoid many complications which the feet usually encounter.
