Calgary Downtown Podiatrist & Foot Clinic

Specialists here at The Foot Institute – Calgary Downtown specialize in the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. They spend an average of a decade in higher education, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the following 4 years in Medical School to acquire a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to standard medical school and in fact several podiatry training programs are contained within these schools. Upon procuring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 - 3 years.

At the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Doctors have received substantial medical instruction with a concentration on issues regarding the feet and ankles. Foot Institute Doctors are educated to deal with problems extending from standard problems such as fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are a lot more complex like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have considerable surgical instruction which supply them the practical experience essential to perform surgery on those issues that are best treated through surgical intervention.

Doctors at the Foot Institute likewise have a comprehensive expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs submit to as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait deviations makes it easy for a Podiatric physician to design footwear and orthotics which can offer pain relief and avoid a large number of troubles which the feet commonly experience.
