Sherwood Park Podiatrist & Foot Clinic

Specialists at The Foot Institute – Sherwood Park specialise in the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our podiatrists devote an average of 10 years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the following 4 years in Medical School to secure a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to standard medical school and in point of fact a number of podiatry training programs are located inside these schools. Upon attaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for an additional one to three years.

At the finalization of the internship or residency, our Podiatric physicians have gained extensive healthcare training with an emphasis on problems involving the feet and ankles. They are qualified to handle problems ranging from commonplace ailments such as ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are much more challenging for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have significant surgical instruction which give them the experience essential to perform surgical treatment on those problems that are best treated through surgical treatment.

Our Doctors additionally have an extensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet undergo as we walk, run or carry out other tasks. Learning about biomechanics and gait peculiarities allows a Podiatric physician to design footwear and orthotics which can bestow pain relief and help prevent a large number of issues which the feet typically encounter.
