Edmonton West Oliver Clinic Podiatrist & Foot Clinic

Doctors at The Foot Institute – Edmonton West Oliver specialize in the medical and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. They spend about 10 years in higher education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the following four years in Medical School to get a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles traditional medical school and in reality numerous podiatry programmes are located within these academic institutions. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or residency for yet another 1 - 3 years.

At the finalization of the internship or residency, our Foot doctors have acquired extensive medical instruction with an emphasis on concerns regarding the feet and ankles. They are educated to manage concerns stretching from common disorders for instance, fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are more perplexing for instance, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have considerable surgical education which give them the skill necessary to perform surgical treatment on those troubles that are ideally treated through surgical treatment.

Our Doctors furthermore have an extensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Understanding biomechanics and gait peculiarities enables a Podiatrist to develop shoes and orthotics which can provide pain relief and avoid many issues which the feet frequently experience.
