Edmonton North Side Clinic (Northgate) Podiatrist & Foot Clinic

Doctors here at The Foot Institute – Edmonton North Side Clinic (Northgate) concentrate on the medical and surgical therapy of the foot and ankle. Foot Institute Doctors devote about 10 years in learning, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to secure a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to get a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to typical medical school and in fact quite a number podiatry programmes lie inside these academic institutions. After procuring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 - 3 years.

Upon the finalization of the internship or residency, our Foot doctors have acquired thorough medical instruction with a main focus on concerns pertaining to the feet and ankles. They are trained to treat issues ranging from simple afflictions like ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are much more obscure like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have substantial surgical training which give them the prior experience necessary to conduct surgical treatment on those complications that are best remedied through surgical intervention.

Doctors at the Foot Institute likewise have a thorough practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs endure as we walk, run or perform other activities. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait abnormalities facilitates a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics which can provide pain relief and protect against countless issues which the feet commonly encounter.
