Edmonton Downtown Clinic Podiatrist & Foot Clinic

Doctors at The Foot Institute – Edmonton Downtown concentrate on the medical and surgical therapy of the foot and ankle. Foot Institute Podiatrists invest approximately a decade in education, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd four years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to standard medical school and in reality a number of podiatry training programs are located inside these institutions. After procuring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional one to three years.

Upon the conclusion of the internship or residency, our Podiatric doctors have received wide-ranging medical education with a concentration on concerns involving the feet and ankles. They are taught to care for problems varying from regular problems for example, ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are a lot more challenging such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have considerable surgical instruction which give them the expertise required to conduct surgery on those troubles that are ideally managed through surgical treatment.

Foot Institute Doctors likewise have an extensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or perform other activities. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait abnormalities empowers a Podiatrist to develop footwear and orthotics which can deliver pain relief and minimize the risk of a large number of conditions which the feet typically experience.
