Medical professionals at The Foot Institute – Edmonton specialize in the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. Foot Institute Podiatrists devote about 10 years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to get a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to get a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles standard medical school and in fact quite a number podiatry training programs are located within these academic institutions. After achieving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 to 3 years.

At the finalization of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have received wide-ranging medical training with a main focus on problems involving the feet and ankles. Foot Institute Doctors are trained to treat difficulties ranging from normal disorders for example, ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are much more sophisticated including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have comprehensive surgical instruction which supply them the prior experience crucial to perform surgery on those complications that are ideally treated through surgical treatment.

Our Doctors also have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet experience as we walk, run or perform other activities. Knowing biomechanics and gait irregularities allows a Podiatrist to create footwear and orthotics that can give pain relief and minimize the risk of countless issues which the feet generally experience.
