Lacombe Podiatrist & Foot Clinic

Medical professionals at The Foot Institute – Lacombe specialise in the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. Our podiatrists spend about 10 years in learning, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to get a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to acquire a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and as a matter of fact several podiatry programmes are located within these academic institutions. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional 1 to 3 years.

Upon the conclusion of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatric doctors have obtained wide-ranging health care training with an importance on problems concerning the ankles and feet. They are taught to handle issues stretching from normal ailments for instance ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are more puzzling like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have extensive surgical education which provide them the prior experience needed to perform surgery on those problems that are ideally handled through surgical intervention.

Foot Institute Doctors furthermore have a comprehensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or perform other activities. Understanding biomechanics and gait abnormalities makes it possible for a Podiatrist to create shoes and orthotics which can provide pain relief and reduce the chances of a large number of problems which the feet frequently encounter.
