Doctors here at The Foot Institute – Calgary Sunpark concentrate on the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. Our doctors devote approximately ten years in learning, the first four years in undergraduate studies to acquire a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to attain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to regular medical school and in point of fact many podiatry training programs lie within these institutions. After acquiring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute carry out a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another 1 to 3 years.
At the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have acquired extensive health care training with a concentration on conditions concerning the feet and ankles. Foot Institute Doctors are instructed to care for conditions ranging from standard problems for instance fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are a lot more perplexing including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have extensive surgical training which give them the experience needed to perform surgery on those problems that are ideally managed through surgical intervention.
Our Doctors additionally have a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet submit to as we walk, run or carry out other tasks. Understanding biomechanics and gait irregularities allows a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics which can offer pain relief and defend against countless conditions which the feet typically experience.
