Dr.’s here at The Foot Institute – Calgary Sunpark specialize in the medical and surgical therapy of the ankle and foot. Foot Institute Podiatrists put in around 10 years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to receive a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and several podiatry training programs are located inside these schools. After attaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or residency for yet another 1 to 3 years.

At the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatric doctors have obtained comprehensive healthcare instruction with a stress on complications regarding the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are educated to handle problems stretching from common afflictions like ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are a lot more challenging for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have extensive surgical education which give them the expertise necessary to carry out surgery on those issues that are ideally remedied through surgical treatment.

Foot Institute Doctors furthermore have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet experience as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Realizing biomechanics and gait abnormalities allows a Podiatrist to develop footwear and orthotics which can bestow pain relief and protect against many troubles which the feet typically encounter.
