Edmonton Rutherford Podiatrist & Foot Clinic

Doctors at The Foot Institute – Edmonton Rutherford specialize in the medical and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our podiatrists invest an average of 10 years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to secure a Bachelors Degree, and the next 4 years in Medical School to acquire a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to general medical school and several podiatry training programs lie within these schools. After securing a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.

Upon the fulfillment of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have received comprehensive health care education with an emphasis on conditions pertaining to the feet and ankles. Foot Institute Doctors are trained to address problems extending from standard problems like ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are even more puzzling for instance, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have substantial surgical training which provide them the experience necessary to perform surgical treatment on those troubles that are best treated through surgical treatment.

Our Doctors additionally have an extensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs receive as we walk, run or perform other activities. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait deviations permits a Podiatric physician to design shoes and orthotics which can offer pain relief and minimize the risk of a large number of troubles which the feet routinely encounter.
