Medical doctors at The Foot Institute – Fort McMurray - River City focus on the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. They devote approximately 10 years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to get a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd 4 years in Medical School to secure a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to usual medical school and actually quite a number podiatry programmes are located within these institutions. After achieving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.

At the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatric doctors have received considerable health care education with an attention to on conditions regarding the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are taught to manage issues extending from basic disorders like ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are far more perplexing like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have thorough surgical instruction which furnish them the experience necessary to carry out surgical treatment on those conditions that are ideally treated through surgical intervention.

Our Doctors furthermore have a comprehensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet go through as we walk, run or perform other activities. Comprehending biomechanics and gait problems allows a Podiatric physician to develop footwear and orthotics which can provide pain relief and help prevent many conditions which the feet frequently encounter.
