Calgary Downtown Podiatrist & Foot Clinic

Doctors here at The Foot Institute – Calgary Downtown specialise in the medical and surgical therapy of the foot and ankle. Foot Institute Podiatrists devote approximately a decade in education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to get a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and in point of fact various podiatry programmes are located within these academic institutions. Upon acquiring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 - 3 years.

At the finalization of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have gained comprehensive healthcare instruction with a focus on difficulties concerning the ankles and feet. They are instructed to care for conditions ranging from regular problems for example, fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are much more sophisticated like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have thorough surgical training which furnish them the expertise necessary to conduct surgery on those conditions that are best treated through surgical intervention.

Doctors at the Foot Institute likewise have a comprehensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs endure as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Understanding biomechanics and gait irregularities enables a Podiatrist to design footwear and orthotics which can bestow pain relief and help prevent numerous complications which the feet frequently encounter.
