Doctors at The Foot Institute – Red Deer specialize in the surgical and medical treatment of the ankle and foot. They invest about 10 years in education, the first four years in undergrad studies to secure a Bachelors Degree, and the next 4 years in Medical School to have a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to traditional medical school and as a matter of fact various podiatry training programs are located within these academic institutions. After attaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for yet another one to three years.

At the fulfillment of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have received extensive medical education with an emphasis on concerns pertaining to the feet and ankles. They are educated to address issues ranging from general ailments like ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are far more challenging including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have considerable surgical education which furnish them the expertise vital to perform surgical treatment on those issues that are ideally treated through surgical intervention.

Foot Institute Doctors furthermore have an extensive expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Learning about biomechanics and gait peculiarities makes it possible for a Podiatrist to create shoes and orthotics which can bestow pain relief and defend against many complications which the feet regularly encounter.
