Doctors here at The Foot Institute – Red Deer focus on the surgical and medical therapy of the foot and ankle. Our podiatrists put in an average of ten years in education, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to get a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd four years in Medical School to have a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and as a matter of fact a number of podiatry programmes are contained within these schools. After attaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute carry out a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for an additional 1 to 3 years.

At the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have obtained comprehensive healthcare education with a main focus on issues pertaining to the ankles and feet. Foot Institute Doctors are instructed to manage difficulties ranging from regular conditions for instance fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are much more sophisticated for example clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have comprehensive surgical instruction which give them the expertise required to carry out surgery on those problems that are best managed through surgical intervention.

Foot Institute Doctors also have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or carry out other tasks. Knowing biomechanics and gait deviations empowers a Podiatric physician to design shoes and orthotics which can provide pain relief and protect against countless problems which the feet frequently encounter.
