Health professionals here at The Foot Institute – Red Deer specialize in the medical and surgical therapy of the ankle and foot. They invest an average of ten years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to secure a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to receive a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to standard medical school and in reality quite a number podiatry training programs are located within these academic institutions. Upon attaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for an additional one to three years.

Upon the finalization of the internship or residency, our Doctors have obtained significant medical training with an attention to on problems pertaining to the ankles and feet. They are taught to address complications stretching from simple disorders for instance, ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are much more perplexing for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have comprehensive surgical training which give them the practical experience crucial to perform surgery on those troubles that are ideally handled through surgical treatment.

Foot Institute Doctors also have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Recognizing biomechanics and gait abnormalities allows a Podiatric doctor to design shoes and orthotics that can bestow pain relief and help prevent many issues which the feet normally encounter.
