Dr.’s at The Foot Institute – Red Deer provide services for the medical and surgical therapy of the foot and ankle. They spend an average of ten years in learning, the first four years in undergraduate studies to acquire a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to receive a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles standard medical school and as a matter of fact quite a number podiatry programs are located within these institutions. Upon acquiring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.
Upon the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatric physicians have acquired substantial medical training with an emphasis on concerns involving the feet and ankles. They are instructed to deal with concerns stretching from usual problems such as fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are much more puzzling for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have extensive surgical instruction which give them the prior experience crucial to perform surgery on those complications that are best managed through surgical intervention.
Doctors at the Foot Institute also have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs submit to as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Understanding biomechanics and gait problems allows a Podiatric physician to design shoes and orthotics which can give pain relief and minimize the risk of a large number of issues which the feet normally encounter.
