Red Deer Podiatrist & Foot Clinic

Medical doctors at The Foot Institute – Red Deer specialize in the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. Foot Institute Podiatrists invest approximately 10 years in education, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to have a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles traditional medical school and in reality quite a number podiatry programs are located inside these academic institutions. After getting a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.

Upon the completion of the internship or residency, our Foot doctors have obtained extensive medical training with a focus on problems concerning the ankles and feet. They are taught to treat issues varying from familiar ailments like ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are far more sophisticated such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have thorough surgical training which supply them the practical experience necessary to perform surgery on those troubles that are best treated through surgical treatment.

Doctors at the Foot Institute also have a thorough practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet withstand as we walk, run or carry out other tasks. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait abnormalities enables a Podiatrist to design footwear and orthotics that can offer pain relief and defend against many troubles which the feet commonly encounter.
