Dr.’s here at The Foot Institute – Red Deer specialise in the medical and surgical therapy of the ankle and foot. They invest an average of ten years in learning, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to get a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd four years in Medical School to have a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to standard medical school and in reality many podiatry programmes are contained inside these institutions. Upon getting a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another 1 - 3 years.
At the completion of the internship or residency, our Doctors have received encompassing healthcare training with a concentration on problems pertaining to the ankles and feet. They are studied to manage problems ranging from commonplace conditions like ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are more complex for example clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have thorough surgical education which give them the experience needed to conduct surgery on those complications that are best treated through surgical intervention.
Foot Institute Doctors also have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait peculiarities allows a Podiatrist to create footwear and orthotics that can bestow pain relief and defend against a large number of problems which the feet normally encounter.
