Red Deer Podiatrist & Foot Clinic

Medical doctors at The Foot Institute – Red Deer specialise in the medical and surgical therapy of the foot and ankle. Our doctors put in an average of 10 years in higher education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd 4 years in Medical School to acquire a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles regular medical school and a number of podiatry programs are located within these institutions. Upon achieving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another 1 - 3 years.

At the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatric doctors have acquired extensive medical instruction with an emphasis on problems involving the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are educated to manage complications extending from simple conditions for example, ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are far more complicated including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have comprehensive surgical education which provide them the experience needed to execute surgical treatment on those issues that are ideally remedied through surgical treatment.

Our Doctors likewise have a comprehensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet go through as we walk, run or perform other activities. Realizing biomechanics and gait abnormalities makes it possible for a Podiatric doctor to design shoes and orthotics that can deliver pain relief and avoid numerous complications which the feet commonly experience.
