Doctors at The Foot Institute – Red Deer focus on the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. Foot Institute Doctors put in an average of a decade in higher education, the first four years in undergrad studies to receive a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to attain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and in point of fact a number of podiatry programmes are located inside these academic institutions. After getting a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional one to three years.

At the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatrists have acquired considerable healthcare training with a focus on problems regarding the ankles and feet. Foot Institute Doctors are instructed to treat conditions ranging from conventional ailments for instance fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are much more complex for example clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have significant surgical education which provide them the skill necessary to carry out surgical treatment on those troubles that are best treated through surgical intervention.

Foot Institute Doctors furthermore have a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet go through as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait peculiarities permits a Foot doctor to create shoes and orthotics which can deliver pain relief and prevent many issues which the feet usually encounter.
