Red Deer Podiatrist & Foot Clinic

Physicians at The Foot Institute – Red Deer concentrate on the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. Our doctors put in about 10 years in education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to secure a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to standard medical school and several podiatry programs are located within these academic institutions. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or residency for yet another 1 to 3 years.

At the completion of the internship or residency, our Doctors have received wide-ranging healthcare instruction with an emphasis on problems pertaining to the ankles and feet. They are trained to treat concerns ranging from typical disorders such as fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are a lot more sophisticated such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have considerable surgical education which provide them the experience necessary to perform surgical treatment on those concerns that are ideally treated through surgical intervention.

Our Doctors furthermore have an extensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or carry out other tasks. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait irregularities allows a Podiatric physician to design shoes and orthotics which can give pain relief and protect against a large number of problems which the feet typically encounter.
