Podiatrists at The Foot Institute – Red Deer focus on the medical and surgical therapy of the foot and ankle. They devote an average of 10 years in higher education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to receive a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles conventional medical school and in fact a number of podiatry programmes are contained within these academic institutions. After attaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute carry out a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another 1 to 3 years.

At the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatric physicians have acquired considerable healthcare education with an attention to on conditions pertaining to the ankles and feet. They are taught to handle issues ranging from standard afflictions such as fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are even more sophisticated for instance, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have comprehensive surgical training which give them the experience necessary to perform surgical treatment on those problems that are best remedied through surgical treatment.

Foot Institute Doctors additionally have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet go through as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait abnormalities empowers a Podiatric doctor to design footwear and orthotics that can give pain relief and avoid many conditions which the feet typically encounter.
