Dr.’s here at The Foot Institute – Red Deer specialise in the surgical and medical therapy of the foot and ankle. Foot Institute Podiatrists invest about 10 years in higher education, the first four years in undergrad studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the following four years in Medical School to have a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to regular medical school and several podiatry programs are located inside these institutions. After procuring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 to 3 years.
Upon the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have acquired thorough healthcare training with a concentration on problems concerning the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are skilled to treat complications extending from normal disorders for instance, ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are even more complicated for example clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have extensive surgical training which provide them the prior experience necessary to perform surgical treatment on those issues that are ideally treated through surgical treatment.
Our Doctors also have a comprehensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or perform other activities. Learning about biomechanics and gait problems permits a Podiatric physician to develop footwear and orthotics which can bestow pain relief and avoid many complications which the feet frequently encounter.
