Doctors at The Foot Institute – Red Deer focus on the surgical and medical therapy of the ankle and foot. Our doctors spend an average of ten years in higher education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to receive a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to receive a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to regular medical school and in fact several podiatry training programs are located within these institutions. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional 1 - 3 years.
Upon the completion of the internship or residency, our Foot doctors have gained wide-ranging medical training with a focus on issues involving the ankles and feet. They are studied to treat issues varying from general afflictions for instance fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are a lot more complicated for instance, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have comprehensive surgical education which give them the skill required to perform surgery on those issues that are best treated through surgical treatment.
Our Doctors furthermore have an extensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet receive as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Comprehending biomechanics and gait problems facilitates a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics which can bestow pain relief and protect against many troubles which the feet routinely experience.
