Health professionals here at The Foot Institute – Red Deer focus on the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. Our doctors spend an average of 10 years in learning, the first four years in undergraduate studies to secure a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to traditional medical school and various podiatry programs are located within these institutions. Upon attaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute carry out a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another one to three years.
At the conclusion of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatric doctors have gained significant healthcare training with an attention to on complications concerning the ankles and feet. They are taught to deal with complications ranging from standard ailments for instance, fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are much more obscure for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have comprehensive surgical training which give them the prior experience needed to execute surgical treatment on those troubles that are ideally treated through surgical intervention.
Doctors at the Foot Institute also have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet endure as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Knowing biomechanics and gait peculiarities makes it possible for a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics which can offer pain relief and help prevent many complications which the feet normally experience.
