Dr.’s at The Foot Institute – Red Deer focus on the medical and surgical therapy of the ankle and foot. Our podiatrists spend around 10 years in education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd four years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to regular medical school and in reality various podiatry programs are located inside these schools. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another 1 to 3 years.
At the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatrists have received extensive health care education with a focus on difficulties pertaining to the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are trained to treat conditions ranging from regular disorders such as fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are more challenging such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have substantial surgical education which furnish them the practical experience essential to conduct surgery on those troubles that are best handled through surgical treatment.
Our Doctors also have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet experience as we walk, run or perform other activities. Realizing biomechanics and gait abnormalities makes it possible for a Podiatrist to design footwear and orthotics which can offer pain relief and protect against countless troubles which the feet routinely experience.
