Health professionals here at The Foot Institute – Red Deer provide services for the surgical and medical therapy of the foot and ankle. They devote about 10 years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to receive a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to attain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to general medical school and in fact a number of podiatry programs are contained within these academic institutions. After securing a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.
At the fulfillment of the internship or residency, our Podiatric physicians have gained extensive health care instruction with an importance on difficulties involving the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are trained to handle difficulties extending from commonplace afflictions such as ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are more challenging including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have extensive surgical training which supply them the skill needed to perform surgery on those conditions that are best managed through surgical treatment.
Foot Institute Doctors also have a thorough practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs submit to as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Knowing biomechanics and gait problems allows a Foot doctor to design footwear and orthotics that can offer pain relief and prevent a large number of conditions which the feet normally experience.
