Specialists at The Foot Institute – Red Deer focus on the surgical and medical treatment of the ankle and foot. They invest an average of ten years in higher education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to attain a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to attain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to conventional medical school and in fact several podiatry programmes are located within these academic institutions. Upon getting a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for yet another one to three years.

Upon the finalization of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have received extensive medical training with a focus on concerns regarding the ankles and feet. They are trained to manage complications extending from usual ailments for instance, fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are far more puzzling for example clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have extensive surgical instruction which give them the experience vital to perform surgical treatment on those problems that are best managed through surgical intervention.

Foot Institute Doctors additionally have a comprehensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet receive as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Learning about biomechanics and gait abnormalities allows a Podiatric physician to design shoes and orthotics which can bestow pain relief and protect against countless problems which the feet typically encounter.
