Physicians at The Foot Institute – Red Deer concentrate on the medical and surgical therapy of the foot and ankle. Our podiatrists invest approximately 10 years in learning, the first four years in undergrad studies to secure a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd four years in Medical School to receive a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to usual medical school and in point of fact many podiatry programs lie within these academic institutions. Upon obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another 1 - 3 years.

At the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatrists have acquired considerable medical training with a stress on issues concerning the ankles and feet. Foot Institute Doctors are trained to deal with issues ranging from conventional disorders like ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are more complicated including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have considerable surgical education which furnish them the experience essential to conduct surgery on those problems that are ideally treated through surgical intervention.

Doctors at the Foot Institute additionally have an extensive expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet experience as we walk, run or perform other activities. Learning about biomechanics and gait peculiarities permits a Podiatric physician to develop shoes and orthotics that can give pain relief and prevent a large number of issues which the feet usually experience.
