Medical doctors here at The Foot Institute – Red Deer provide services for the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our podiatrists put in an average of 10 years in education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to attain a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to have a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to conventional medical school and in fact several podiatry programs are located inside these institutions. Upon securing a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 - 3 years.
At the conclusion of the internship or residency, our Doctors have acquired encompassing healthcare training with a main focus on issues involving the ankles and feet. Foot Institute Doctors are studied to deal with difficulties extending from standard problems such as ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are far more obscure for example clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have comprehensive surgical training which supply them the experience necessary to perform surgery on those problems that are best treated through surgical treatment.
Doctors at the Foot Institute also have a thorough practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet withstand as we walk, run or perform other activities. Realizing biomechanics and gait deviations enables a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics that can offer pain relief and avoid many issues which the feet normally experience.
