Podiatrists here at The Foot Institute – Red Deer provide services for the surgical and medical treatment of the ankle and foot. Foot Institute Doctors invest around 10 years in higher education, the first four years in undergrad studies to attain a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to get a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and in fact a number of podiatry programmes are located inside these institutions. Upon acquiring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.

At the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have received substantial healthcare training with an emphasis on problems pertaining to the feet and ankles. They are taught to treat concerns ranging from usual disorders for example, fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are more challenging for instance, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have considerable surgical education which furnish them the experience crucial to carry out surgical treatment on those issues that are best handled through surgical intervention.

Our Doctors additionally have an extensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs experience as we walk, run or carry out other tasks. Learning about biomechanics and gait peculiarities makes it possible for a Podiatric physician to develop shoes and orthotics that can provide pain relief and protect against a large number of problems which the feet frequently encounter.
