Medical doctors at The Foot Institute – Red Deer provide services for the medical and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our doctors devote approximately 10 years in education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles conventional medical school and in reality various podiatry programs are contained within these schools. Upon obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another 1 - 3 years.
At the finalization of the internship or residency, our Foot doctors have acquired encompassing healthcare training with a main focus on issues pertaining to the feet and ankles. They are trained to manage difficulties stretching from conventional problems for instance ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are much more obscure for instance, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have significant surgical education which furnish them the experience required to execute surgical treatment on those problems that are best handled through surgical intervention.
Our Doctors additionally have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet undergo as we walk, run or perform other activities. Knowing biomechanics and gait irregularities makes it possible for a Podiatrist to develop footwear and orthotics which can deliver pain relief and protect against countless issues which the feet frequently encounter.
