Podiatrists at The Foot Institute – Red Deer specialize in the surgical and medical treatment of the ankle and foot. Foot Institute Doctors invest an average of a decade in higher education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to receive a Bachelors Degree, and the following four years in Medical School to get a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to conventional medical school and as a matter of fact several podiatry training programs are located inside these schools. Upon attaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.

At the fulfillment of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatric doctors have gained encompassing medical instruction with an emphasis on difficulties pertaining to the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are studied to care for issues varying from standard ailments for instance ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are far more obscure such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have significant surgical training which provide them the prior experience crucial to conduct surgery on those problems that are best managed through surgical treatment.

Our Doctors furthermore have an extensive expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet withstand as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Knowing biomechanics and gait abnormalities makes it easy for a Podiatric physician to design footwear and orthotics which can bestow pain relief and reduce the chances of many conditions which the feet routinely experience.
