Doctors here at The Foot Institute – Red Deer specialize in the medical and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. They spend an average of a decade in higher education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to receive a Bachelors Degree, and the following four years in Medical School to get a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to general medical school and in fact numerous podiatry training programs are contained inside these schools. After receiving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 to 3 years.

At the conclusion of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have gained comprehensive medical training with a focus on concerns pertaining to the feet and ankles. They are trained to treat concerns ranging from common problems such as fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are more perplexing for instance, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have thorough surgical education which supply them the experience necessary to execute surgical treatment on those problems that are ideally remedied through surgical intervention.

Foot Institute Doctors furthermore have a comprehensive expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet experience as we walk, run or perform other activities. Recognizing biomechanics and gait deviations makes it possible for a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics that can bestow pain relief and prevent countless complications which the feet regularly encounter.
