Physicians at The Foot Institute – Red Deer specialize in the medical and surgical therapy of the ankle and foot. They invest about ten years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the following 4 years in Medical School to attain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to usual medical school and in fact quite a number podiatry training programs are located inside these academic institutions. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute carry out a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.

At the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Foot doctors have received considerable healthcare training with an emphasis on problems concerning the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are studied to manage issues ranging from simple problems such as fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are much more puzzling for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have extensive surgical training which give them the skill required to execute surgery on those conditions that are best handled through surgical treatment.

Doctors at the Foot Institute also have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet receive as we walk, run or perform other activities.
