Physicians here at The Foot Institute – Red Deer specialise in the medical and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. They devote around 10 years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to attain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles standard medical school and in reality many podiatry training programs are located within these institutions. After getting a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for an additional one to three years.

Upon the finalization of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have gained extensive health care training with a concentration on conditions involving the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are qualified to treat issues ranging from basic afflictions for instance fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are much more perplexing for example clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have comprehensive surgical education which furnish them the experience essential to execute surgery on those complications that are best remedied through surgical intervention.

Our Doctors also have a thorough practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Realizing biomechanics and gait deviations permits a Podiatrist to develop shoes and orthotics that can bestow pain relief and defend against numerous conditions which the feet typically encounter.
