Doctors here at The Foot Institute – Red Deer provide services for the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. Foot Institute Podiatrists put in an average of ten years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to secure a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and in fact several podiatry programs are located within these academic institutions. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional 1 - 3 years.

Upon the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatrists have acquired significant healthcare education with a focus on issues pertaining to the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are studied to address conditions stretching from basic afflictions such as fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are more obscure for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have significant surgical instruction which furnish them the experience needed to carry out surgical treatment on those issues that are best remedied through surgical intervention.

Doctors at the Foot Institute likewise have a comprehensive expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet endure as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Realizing biomechanics and gait abnormalities empowers a Podiatric doctor to design shoes and orthotics which can give pain relief and avoid countless troubles which the feet routinely experience.
