Medical professionals at The Foot Institute – Red Deer concentrate on the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our podiatrists put in about 10 years in education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to get a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to secure a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to traditional medical school and as a matter of fact various podiatry programs are located within these institutions. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another one to three years.
At the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatric physicians have obtained extensive medical training with a main focus on complications pertaining to the ankles and feet. They are studied to treat difficulties ranging from familiar problems for instance fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are even more challenging including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have substantial surgical instruction which supply them the experience necessary to perform surgical treatment on those troubles that are ideally remedied through surgical intervention.
Our Doctors also have a thorough practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs receive as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Learning about biomechanics and gait peculiarities permits a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics which can deliver pain relief and protect against many troubles which the feet generally experience.
