After achieving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or residency for yet another 1 - 3 years.

At the completion of the internship or residency, our Doctors have gained encompassing medical training with a focus on problems concerning the feet and ankles. They are taught to manage complications ranging from familiar problems such as fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are more sophisticated like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have substantial surgical training which give them the practical experience necessary to carry out surgical treatment on those conditions that are best remedied through surgical treatment.

Our Doctors furthermore have a comprehensive expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet undergo as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Learning about biomechanics and gait peculiarities enables a Podiatric doctor to develop shoes and orthotics that can provide pain relief and minimize the risk of a large number of complications which the feet normally experience.
